What Is a Porcelain Facial (Medical Facial)?

A porcelain facial is a multi-step medical facial designed to smooth skin texture, even out skin tone and make pores look less visible. It takes its name from the smooth, fresh and even look the skin aims for afterwards.

The treatment first clears away the build-up of dead cells on the skin’s surface. The skin is then nourished with serums containing vitamins, peptides and antioxidants, supported by a device. Surface cleansing and moisture support are handled in the same session.

What sets it apart from a classic beauty-salon facial is that it is planned after a doctor’s assessment, and every step is adjusted to your skin type. The peel, the serums and the device settings vary from person to person.

“Porcelain skin” describes skin with barely visible pores, an even tone and a smooth surface. This look depends partly on genetics, but regular care, sun protection and the right routine at home can help the skin move closer to it.

How Is a Porcelain Facial Done?

At our Nişantaşı clinic, a porcelain facial is carried out under a medical aesthetics doctor’s supervision and takes about 60–90 minutes, depending on your skin’s needs. It includes these steps:

  1. Deep cleansing: Oil and dirt are removed with cleansers that respect the skin’s pH balance.
  2. Medical peel: Acids or plant enzymes suited to your skin type gently remove the layer of dead skin. This step is the basis of the smooth look.
  3. Vacuum pore cleansing: Blackheads and residue in the pores are cleared with a vacuum method.
  4. Vitamin and antioxidant support: Serums containing vitamins, peptides and antioxidants are applied to the freshly cleansed skin.
  5. Device-assisted step: Radiofrequency or ultrasonic devices help the serums absorb and leave the skin looking firmer.
  6. Mask and LED light: A soothing mask and LED light finish the session.

Each step is adjusted to your skin on the day: the peel is kept lighter on sensitive skin, while more time may go into pore cleansing on oily skin.

For a few days beforehand, pause products containing retinol or acids. No needles are used, and you can return to your day afterwards. If you have deeper spots or marked sun damage, the facial may be planned together with skin spot treatments.

What Does a Medical Facial Do, and Who Is It For?

A porcelain facial can be adapted to different ages and skin types. It is most often chosen for:

  • Enlarged pores: It helps pores look less visible.
  • Dull, tired skin: It aims to bring back freshness to skin dulled by pollution, stress and lack of sleep.
  • Mild uneven tone: It helps soften mild discoloration from sun or breakouts.
  • Oily or unbalanced skin: It helps reduce oil build-up in pores so the skin looks more balanced.
  • Dehydrated skin: The serum and mask steps target moisture.
  • Before a special event: It suits people who want brighter-looking skin before a wedding or an important occasion.

If the deeper layers of the skin lack moisture, the facial may be combined in one plan with injectable treatments such as Aqua Shine. The content can also be tailored to women’s and men’s skin; age alone is not the deciding factor.

Porcelain Facial Aftercare and Side Effects

A porcelain facial is non-surgical, and side effects are usually mild and temporary:

  • Redness: Sensitive skin may look slightly pink for a few hours.
  • Light flaking: Depending on the strength of the peel, fine flaking may appear after 2–3 days.
  • Sun sensitivity: The skin may be more sensitive to the sun for a few days.

Avoid washing your face with water and wearing makeup for the first 24 hours. Use a high-SPF sunscreen for at least one week, and stay away from saunas and Turkish baths. Using the home-care products your doctor recommends helps maintain the result.

For a few days, skip at-home peels and products containing retinol or acids. If your skin flakes, don’t pick it; keep it moisturized instead. If redness lasts longer than a few days or a burning feeling gets worse, contact your doctor.

How Many Sessions Do You Need, and How Long Do Results Last?

No facial gives lasting results on its own; skin constantly renews itself and is exposed to outside factors. The glow and smoothness after a porcelain facial usually remain noticeable for 3–4 weeks.

A single session can be done before a special day. For a more visible change in skin quality, a course of 4–6 sessions is usually suggested, followed by monthly maintenance facials to help keep the look.

How long the effect lasts depends on skin type, age, smoking, sleep and sun protection habits. Using the sunscreen and serums your doctor recommends at home is the key way to support the in-clinic treatment. If fine lines and acne scars are also a concern, the facial may be planned together with golden needle treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Popular Questions

Does a porcelain facial hurt?

It is usually a comfortable treatment with no needles or anesthetic. You may feel light suction during pore cleansing or brief tingling during the peel.

It may help soften the look of superficial marks and discoloration. Deeper, pitted scars usually need other methods, such as laser or golden needle, as part of acne scar treatment.

Yes. With a suitable peel and regular sunscreen, it can be done in summer too. Protecting your skin from direct sun after the facial matters even more at this time of year.

Avoid makeup for the first 24 hours. After that, you can return to light products that don’t clog pores. Before a special event, plan the facial a few days ahead.

If you have widespread, inflamed acne, the acne is treated first. With severe rosacea or another active skin condition, the doctor decides whether and how to plan it. If you have recently had laser or a deep peel, the facial waits until the skin has healed.
