What Is a HydraFacial?
A HydraFacial (sometimes written “hydra facial”) is a device-based facial that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration in a single session. A special handpiece uses gentle suction to lift dirt and oil out of the pores while delivering serums containing antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid into the skin.
Classic facials usually rely on steam to open the pores. Strong, hot steam can increase redness and sensitivity, especially in people with rosacea, visible capillaries or dry skin. A HydraFacial uses no steam. Instead, it cleans the skin with a swirling “vortex” of fluid and suction, which is why it can be comfortable even for sensitive skin.
What makes the treatment different is that cleansing and care happen at the same time. While the pores are being cleared, the serums are applied to freshly cleaned skin, where they can absorb more easily. Right after the session, the skin usually looks brighter, smoother and more hydrated.
At our clinic in Nişantaşı, Istanbul, each HydraFacial is tailored to your skin with a choice of peels, LED light therapy and serums.
How Is a HydraFacial Done?
A HydraFacial follows a series of steps, one after the other:
- Cleansing and exfoliation: The skin is deeply cleansed with the suction handpiece and cleansing solutions, and dead skin cells are removed.
- Peel: A mild acid peel is applied according to your skin’s needs. For pigmentation, acne marks or thick skin with large pores, diamond-tip microdermabrasion can be added.
- Extraction: Blackheads and oil trapped in the pores are cleared with suction, without irritating the skin.
- Serums and hydration: Serums are chosen for your skin concern. Hyaluronic acid is preferred for dry skin with fine lines, and oil-balancing ingredients for oily skin with enlarged pores.
- LED therapy: Blue light may be used for acne-prone skin, and red light for skin that needs collagen support.
A session takes about 30–45 minutes. Because the skin is not left sensitive, you can usually go straight back to your day.
The solutions and peel strength can be adjusted at every step, so the same treatment can focus on deep cleansing for oily skin or on hydration for dry, sensitive skin.
What Are the Benefits of a HydraFacial?
A HydraFacial is designed to improve overall skin quality and can support a range of concerns:
- Clearer pores: Clogged pores and blackheads are cleaned out, which can help pores look smaller.
- Hydration and glow: It supports the skin’s moisture balance and brings life back to dull, tired-looking skin.
- Acne-prone skin: Removing oil and debris from the pores may help reduce new breakouts. Active or widespread acne needs its own plan; see our acne and scar treatment page.
- Fine lines: Moisture and peptides help soften the look of fine lines.
- Uneven tone: Exfoliation and peeling help the skin tone look more even.
Results are most noticeable when the treatment is repeated regularly. If your skin needs deeper renewal, a HydraFacial can be planned alongside a chemical peel, or with mesolifting for added hydration and collagen support.
Who Is a HydraFacial Suitable For?
A HydraFacial can be used on most skin types, including oily, combination, dry and sensitive skin. The solutions and peel strength are adjusted to your skin.
It is a popular choice for:
- People with clogged pores, visible blackheads and oily skin
- Anyone whose skin looks dull, tired or dehydrated
- Those who want a facial with no downtime before an important event
- Sensitive skin that cannot tolerate steam because of rosacea or visible capillaries
- People who want regular skin care alongside Botox, fillers or laser treatments
If you have rosacea, timing depends on whether the condition is in an active phase. You can read more on our rosacea treatment page.
How Often Should You Get a HydraFacial?
Most people notice a difference after the first session. To improve overall skin quality, a few sessions are usually recommended 2–4 weeks apart at the start, followed by a monthly maintenance session. The right frequency depends on your skin and your goals.
For a few days before your appointment, avoid retinol, acid-based products and at-home peels. Skip heavy makeup on the day.
Your skin may look slightly pink for a few hours afterward. To support the result:
- Avoid makeup for a few hours after the session.
- Stay away from saunas, Turkish baths and very hot environments for 24–48 hours.
- Pause peels, retinol and acid-based products for a few days.
- Use sunscreen every day.
A HydraFacial is a skin care treatment. On its own, it is not enough for deep wrinkles, noticeable sagging or deep acne scars; these are treated with other medical options planned for your skin.
