What Is a Mesogun (Mesotherapy Gun)?
A mesogun is an electronic injection device that delivers mesotherapy mixtures into the skin in a controlled way. It is also called a mesotherapy gun or meso gun. A syringe and a very fine needle are attached, and the doctor controls the treatment through its settings.
In classic mesotherapy, the doctor gives each injection one by one with a hand-held syringe. With a mesotherapy gun, the depth of each injection, the amount of product and the injection speed are set in advance. This means many injections can be given over a large area at an even depth and dose.
A mesogun is not a treatment in itself but a delivery tool. The ingredients and the goal of the treatment are the same as in classic mesotherapy; the difference lies in how the injections are given. The doctor decides which treatments suit the device and which are better done by hand.
A mesotherapy gun is a medical device and, at our clinic in Nişantaşı, Istanbul, it is used only by a doctor, since choosing the right depth and dose requires knowledge of skin and scalp anatomy.
Mesotherapy Gun vs. Hand Injections: What Is the Difference?
Both methods aim to deliver the ingredients to the right layer of the skin. The main features of a mesogun compared with hand injections are:
- Adjustable depth: Injection depth can be set to the millimeter, so the product reaches the right layer.
- Adjustable dose: The amount per injection is set in advance, helping spread the product evenly.
- Speed: Injections are given very quickly, which shortens treatment time on larger areas.
- Comfort: Because the needle enters and leaves the skin very quickly, many people find it easier to tolerate.
Hand injections have their own advantages: on small, delicate areas such as around the eyes, or on individual points, they can give more control. The two methods are often combined in the same session for different areas.
These advantages depend on correct settings: too deep, and the product may pass below the target layer; too shallow, and bumps may last longer. Settings are therefore adjusted each time to the area and skin thickness.
What Treatments Is a Mesogun Used For?
A mesotherapy gun is mainly chosen for treatments that need many injections over a large area:
- Facial mesotherapy: It is used in mesolifting on the face, neck and décolleté to improve hydration and radiance.
- Hair mesotherapy: It makes it easier to treat the whole scalp evenly. See hair mesotherapy for details.
- Body contouring: It can be used in mesolipolysis on larger body areas such as the abdomen, hips and legs.
- Cellulite and stretch marks: It may be used in body mesotherapy aimed at skin quality and as part of cellulite treatment plans.
Whether the device is used is decided at your consultation, based on the area and the goal of the treatment.
How Is Mesotherapy With a Mesogun Done?
Before treatment, the skin or scalp is examined and a personalized mixture is chosen. Stopping medicines that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin, for a few days beforehand (after checking with your doctor) may reduce the risk of bruising. The device’s depth, dose and speed are then set for the area and the goal.
- The area is cleansed and wiped with an antiseptic solution.
- If needed, numbing cream is applied and left to take effect.
- The prepared mixture is loaded into a sterile syringe attached to the device.
- The doctor moves the device across the skin at regular intervals, giving the injections.
- The area is cleaned at the end and, if needed, a soothing product is applied.
Treatment time depends on the size of the area; it usually takes 15–30 minutes. Small bumps and mild redness at the injection points usually fade within a few hours, and most people return to their day straight away.
The number of sessions depends on the treatment, not the device; facial mesotherapy is often a course a few weeks apart.
Mesotherapy Gun vs. Needle-Free Mesotherapy
“Mesotherapy device” is used for two kinds of devices that work very differently, so they are often confused:
- Mesotherapy gun (with a needle): Delivers the product with a very fine needle straight into the middle layer of the skin. Injection depth and dose can be adjusted.
- Needle-free mesotherapy device: Uses no needle. Methods such as electroporation temporarily make the skin more permeable so it absorbs the product applied to the surface, as in the Frozen facial.
Needle-free methods suit people who fear needles, usually leave no marks and may support sensitive skin between injection sessions, but the product reaches a more limited depth. With injections, it reaches the target layer directly. The right method depends on your concern and expectations.
