What Is Hair Mesotherapy?
Hair mesotherapy is a treatment in which the vitamins, minerals, amino acids and peptides your hair follicles need are delivered directly into the scalp with very fine needles. The aim is to nourish the follicles, reduce shedding, strengthen thinning hair and help resting follicles move into the growth phase.
The word comes from the Greek “mesos” (middle) and “therapia” (treatment), meaning treatment of the middle layer of the skin. This is where hair follicles sit. At the base of each follicle is the dermal papilla, a structure fed by blood vessels that controls hair growth. In hair mesotherapy, the ingredients are placed at the right depth, close to this area.
Common causes of hair loss include poor nourishment of the follicles, reduced blood flow in the scalp, hormonal factors, stress and nutritional deficiencies. Hair mesotherapy directly targets the factors related to nourishment and circulation. Unlike products applied to the scalp surface, the active ingredients are delivered close to the follicle.
Who Is Hair Mesotherapy For?
Mesotherapy for hair loss can be used for shedding and thinning from different causes in both women and men:
- Male pattern hair loss: In the early stages, it can help slow shedding and strengthen existing hair.
- Female pattern hair loss and diffuse thinning: It aims to thicken hair strands where density has dropped.
- Seasonal and stress-related shedding: It supports recovery after short but heavy shedding.
- Postpartum and diet-related shedding: It can be used after childbirth or rapid weight loss.
- Before or after a hair transplant: It can be added to the plan to help protect existing hair.
Before treatment starts, the cause of hair loss is investigated. Blood tests such as iron, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and thyroid levels are reviewed, and any deficiency is addressed with correct supplement use. Patchy, round areas of hair loss need a different approach; see our alopecia areata treatment page.
How Is Hair Mesotherapy Done?
At Dr. Sevgi Ekiyor’s clinic in Nişantaşı, hair mesotherapy is done in several stages so the product reaches the scalp more effectively and the session is more comfortable:
- Anesthesia: Creams absorb poorly on the hairy scalp, so a specially prepared anesthetic spray is applied and left for about 20 minutes.
- Dermapen: A dermapen creates micro-channels in the scalp. This stage takes about 15–20 minutes.
- Microinjection: The mesotherapy blend is injected in small amounts, with the needle tip and depth chosen to suit your scalp. This stage also takes about 15–20 minutes.
- Electroporation: The session ends with about 10 minutes of electroporation, which helps the scalp absorb the product.
Including the waiting time, a session takes 60–90 minutes in total. You can return to your day straight afterward; mild redness and tenderness on the scalp usually ease within a few hours.
What Is in a Hair Mesotherapy Cocktail?
The blend is chosen according to the cause of your hair loss. Our clinic uses European-made products licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Health. Their main ingredients include:
- Hyaluronic acid: Hydrates the scalp and supports the tissue around the follicle.
- D-panthenol (vitamin B5): Helps strengthen hair strands.
- Melilot extract: Supports local blood flow to the follicle.
- Carnosine: An antioxidant that helps protect the follicle from damage.
- Organic silicon: Stimulates the follicles and supports hair structure.
- Peptides (such as acetyl tetrapeptide-3 and copper peptide): Help strengthen the tissue around the follicle and reduce shedding.
- Growth factors (CG-VEGF, CG-aFGF): Support blood vessels and circulation in the scalp.
The blend should be alcohol-free, pH-neutral and isotonic so it does not irritate the scalp. Accurate diagnosis and the right injection depth matter as much as the product itself.
How Many Sessions Do You Need and When Will You See Results?
Hair mesotherapy is usually planned as a course of 4–6 sessions, 2–3 weeks apart. The number and spacing of sessions are decided at your consultation, based on the cause and duration of hair loss and the condition of your scalp.
Because the hair growth cycle is long, results appear gradually. Reduced shedding is usually noticed after the first 3–4 sessions, while thicker strands and more density become visible in the months after the course ends.
Results vary from person to person. How long the hair loss has been going on, the state of the follicles and whether the underlying cause is treated all affect the outcome. Starting early usually brings a better response; in areas where follicles have been lost for a long time, mesotherapy has limited effect.
Maintenance sessions every few months are recommended to keep the result. Hair mesotherapy can be combined with hair PRP / GRP, which uses growth factors from your own blood, and hair Botox can be added to care for damaged strands.
