What Is a Thulium Laser (Baby Face Laser)?
A thulium laser is a skin renewal treatment that uses thulium laser technology at a wavelength of 1927 nm. In our Nişantaşı clinic it is offered as the Baby Face Thulium Laser, and it is often simply called a baby face laser. The aim is to help the skin look brighter, smoother and more even in tone.
The laser opens micro-channels in the skin that are too small to see, without seriously damaging the outer layer (epidermis). These channels trigger the skin’s own repair process, which stimulates collagen and elastin production so the skin gradually renews itself.
The second key feature is that the open channels act as a pathway for serums. Ingredients chosen for your skin’s needs, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, tranexamic acid, resveratrol and stem cell–derived peptides, are applied through these channels. This way the renewing effect of the laser and the effect of the serums come together in the same session.
A thulium laser is different from ablative lasers that strip the skin. Because it does not remove the whole skin surface, recovery is shorter and you usually don’t need to take time off. It may suit women and men with spots, dullness, fine lines or pore concerns who want a refresh without a long recovery.
What Does a Thulium Laser Treat?
Depending on the serums and settings used, a thulium laser may be chosen for different skin concerns:
- Dark spots: It can help even out the tone of sun spots, age spots, melasma and spots that appear after pregnancy.
- Skin rejuvenation: It supports collagen production for fine lines and superficial wrinkles.
- Pores and dullness: It can make enlarged pores look less visible and bring life back to dull, tired-looking skin.
- Shallow acne scars: It may help improve mild marks and uneven skin texture.
For pigmentation, the treatment can be planned alongside other methods; you can find the options on our skin spot treatments page. Deep, pitted acne scars may need methods that work deeper, as part of acne and acne scar treatment. If a deeper effect on skin firmness is the goal, golden needle treatment may be considered.
How Is a Baby Face Thulium Laser Treatment Done?
The treatment starts with an examination and skin analysis. Your main skin concern is identified and the serum is chosen to match it.
For a few days beforehand, pause peels, retinol and acid products, and avoid strong sun. On tanned skin, the laser settings may need to be adjusted or the session postponed.
- The skin is cleansed and all makeup is removed.
- The laser handpiece is passed over the skin, opening micro-channels at a depth suited to your skin. This step takes about 5–7 minutes.
- While the channels are open, the serums prepared for your concern are massaged into the skin.
- A cooling mask is applied to soothe the skin and support its moisture balance.
Including preparation, the whole appointment takes about 30 minutes. Most people feel only mild tingling or warmth, so numbing cream is usually not needed.
Because settings and serums affect both results and safety, the plan is made by a doctor.
What Areas Can Be Treated With a Thulium Laser?
Because the dose can be adjusted precisely, the baby face laser can be used on different areas:
- Face: The whole face, including the forehead, cheeks, eye area and jawline, to even out tone and renew the skin.
- Neck and décolleté: To improve skin quality where signs of aging often show early.
- Backs of the hands: For sun and age spots and thinning skin.
- Underarms and intimate area: To lighten darkening linked to hormonal changes or hair removal.
For other options for these areas, see neck, décolleté and hand treatments. A thulium laser can also be planned together with regular medical facials such as porcelain skin care, so the renewal from the laser is supported by the skin’s moisture and care needs.
Thulium Laser Aftercare and Side Effects
The most common effect after treatment is mild pinkness or redness, which usually settles on its own within 2–3 hours. Sensitive skin may feel slightly dry or rough to the touch for a few days. This is a sign of renewal and usually eases quickly with moisturizer.
To help recovery go smoothly:
- Makeup: Skip makeup on the first day; you can usually return to your normal routine the next day.
- Skin care: For the first days, use only the moisturizer and sunscreen your doctor recommends.
- Sun: Avoid direct sunlight and apply a high-protection (SPF 50+) sunscreen regularly.
- Active products: Pause peels, retinol and acid products for a few days.
Most people return to work and social plans the same day; there are no wounds or bandages. Keep using sunscreen between sessions and after your course, because sunlight is one of the main reasons spots become visible again.
