What Is Face Mesotherapy (Mesolifting)?
Face mesotherapy is a treatment in which a blend of vitamins, minerals, hyaluronic acid and ingredients involved in DNA synthesis is injected into the skin with very fine needles. The blend is chosen for you after a skin analysis. Because of its rejuvenating effect, the treatment is also called mesolifting, or a mesolift.
The collagen and elastin fibers that keep skin firm sit in the dermis, the middle layer of the skin. Creams and serums applied to the surface reach this layer only to a limited extent. With face mesotherapy, the active ingredients are delivered in small amounts directly into the dermis, supporting hydration, glow and elasticity from within.
Face mesotherapy is not a filler and does not add volume. Its goal is better skin quality. That is why it is often planned alongside Botox and fillers: for example, expression lines can be softened with Hollywood Botox while mesotherapy supports the skin’s moisture and radiance.
What Are the Benefits of Face Mesotherapy?
Face mesotherapy is used to soften signs of aging caused by genetics and the environment and to bring back the skin’s vitality:
- Hydration and glow: Hyaluronic acid and vitamins boost moisture and refresh dull, tired-looking skin.
- Fine lines: Extra moisture and collagen support help soften the look of fine lines.
- Skin tone: Uneven tone from fatigue, smoking and sun exposure becomes more even.
- Elasticity: By supporting collagen production, the skin can look firmer and plumper.
- Texture: The skin surface looks smoother.
It is especially helpful for people in middle age and older, smokers, and skin that is dry or damaged after years of sun exposure. Started regularly before wrinkles set in, it can help the skin look healthy and youthful for longer. Besides the face, it can also be used on the neck, décolletage and backs of the hands.
How Is Face Mesotherapy Done?
Before the treatment, your skin is analyzed for hydration, elasticity, pigmentation and lines, and a personalized blend is chosen.
- The skin is professionally cleansed.
- A numbing cream is applied and left for about 20–30 minutes.
- The blend is injected in small amounts with very fine needles. This can be done by hand or with the Mesogun device, which allows the depth and amount of each injection to be adjusted.
- The skin is cleaned and a soothing product is applied.
Depending on your skin’s needs, the blend may contain:
- Hyaluronic acid
- Salmon DNA (polynucleotides)
- Vitamins A, B, C, E and K
- Amino acids and polypeptides
- Mineral salts and coenzymes
- Nucleic acids and DMAE
The procedure takes about 20–30 minutes. Small bumps at the injection points usually fade within a few hours, and most people go straight back to their day.
How Many Sessions of Face Mesotherapy Do You Need?
Face mesotherapy is usually planned as a course of 3–5 sessions, 2–3 weeks apart. The number of sessions depends on your skin, your age and your goals.
Changes in hydration and glow are often noticed after the first few sessions. Collagen-related improvement is slower and becomes clearer in the weeks after the course ends. To maintain the result, a maintenance session every 2–3 months is recommended. How long results last depends on age, skin type, sun protection, smoking and daily skin care.
The treatment can be done at any time of year. For a few days beforehand, ask your doctor about stopping medicines and supplements that increase bleeding, and skip heavy makeup on the day.
Face mesotherapy can be combined with other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as polynucleotide-based Nucleofill or youth and collagen injections. A blend made for the eye area can be used for under-eye mesotherapy in the same session.
Side Effects and Aftercare
When performed by a doctor with licensed products, face mesotherapy is considered a safe treatment. Side effects are usually mild and temporary:
- Mild redness and small bumps at the injection points
- Small bruises that last a few days
- Short-lived tenderness
Infection and allergic reactions are rare. To lower these risks, the treatment is done under sterile conditions, and following aftercare advice matters:
- Do not wear makeup or touch your skin for the first 24 hours.
- Avoid saunas, Turkish baths, swimming pools and intense exercise on the first day.
- Pause peels, retinol and acid-based products for a few days.
- Use sunscreen every day.
