What Is Onda Pro?
Onda Pro is a non-surgical body contouring device developed by the Italian medical device manufacturer DEKA. It is designed to address three common concerns with a single system: stubborn localized fat, cellulite and loose skin.
Many people search for it as the “Onda laser” or “Onda Pro laser,” but Onda Pro is not actually a laser. It works with microwave energy at a frequency of 2.45 GHz, a technology the manufacturer calls Coolwaves, which is why the system is also known as Onda Coolwaves. This energy largely passes through the upper layers of the skin and turns into heat in the fat layer beneath. The heated fat cells are damaged and then gradually cleared by the body over the following weeks. Part of the energy also stimulates collagen fibers in the skin, which helps tighten the tissue.
A cooling system in the handpiece keeps the skin surface cool throughout the session, so the deeper fat is heated while the surface stays protected. This selective heating is what sets Onda Pro apart from older radiofrequency and vacuum devices that heat the skin from the outside in.
There are no needles, incisions or anesthesia, and you can return to your normal routine the same day.
What Does Onda Pro Treat?
These three concerns often appear together in the same area:
- Stubborn fat: It reduces localized fat that does not respond to diet and exercise. It is not a weight-loss treatment; it suits people who are close to their ideal weight but bothered by specific areas.
- Cellulite: It targets both the fat and the fibrous bands that pull the skin down, softening the “orange peel” look. Different handpieces and settings are used depending on the cellulite stage.
- Loose skin: By stimulating collagen, it helps firm skin that has loosened after weight loss, pregnancy or with age.
Treatable areas include the abdomen and waist, hips and buttocks, inner and outer thighs, the backs of the arms, the bra line and the double chin. In men it is most often used on the abdomen and flanks; in women, on cellulite and fat around the hips, thighs and buttocks.
For cellulite, Onda Pro can be planned on its own or alongside the options on our cellulite treatment page. For localized slimming, it may be combined with meso lipolysis injections.
How Is Onda Pro Treatment Done?
At our clinic in Nişantaşı, Istanbul, treatment starts with an examination. The thickness of the fat layer, the cellulite grade and skin elasticity are assessed, and the area to be treated is marked on the skin.
- A medical oil is applied so the energy is transmitted evenly into the skin.
- A handpiece is chosen for your concern: a deep one for thicker fat and more visible cellulite, a superficial one for laxity and mild cellulite, and a smaller one for areas such as the double chin.
- The doctor moves the handpiece over the marked area in massage-like strokes to spread the energy evenly.
Each area takes around 10–15 minutes; a full session usually lasts 30–60 minutes. You will feel warmth deep inside and coolness on the surface. No special care is needed afterward.
Drinking plenty of water, taking light walks and avoiding heavy, fatty meals in the following days helps the body clear the treated fat cells.
How Many Onda Pro Sessions Do You Need?
Most people need 2–4 sessions. The exact number depends on fat thickness, cellulite grade and the area being treated, and it is decided at your consultation. Because the body needs time to clear the damaged fat cells, sessions are spaced 2–4 weeks apart.
A feeling of firmer skin may be noticed after the first session. Reduction in volume and smoother-looking cellulite usually become visible from the second or third week, as the treated fat cells begin to be cleared. The clearest results are typically seen one to two months after the final session. Results vary from person to person.
Onda Pro Side Effects
Because it cools the skin surface during treatment, Onda Pro is generally well tolerated. Any effects afterward are temporary:
- Mild redness and warmth in the treated area, which usually fade within a few hours.
- Tenderness to touch or slight swelling, easing over a few days.
- Rarely, small firm areas under the skin, which soften on their own.
Bruising, which was common with older vacuum-based systems, is not an expected effect of Onda Pro. If the heat feels uncomfortable during the session, the settings can be adjusted right away.
