What Is a Wellness Detox Program?
Our detox program is a personalized wellness program planned and supervised by a doctor. Your complaints, blood results and lifestyle are assessed, and the aim is to support your body’s needs with intravenous (IV) drips, nutritional changes and supplements.
Please note: this is a wellness detox focused on nutrition and general well-being. It is not addiction treatment and does not cover drug or alcohol withdrawal.
Your body has its own cleansing systems, including the liver, kidneys, gut and lymphatic system. City life, processed food, stress and poor sleep can put these systems under strain. In some people, this may show up as tiredness, low energy, difficulty losing weight or dull-looking skin. Each of these complaints can also have other medical causes.
A medical detox program is different from detox juices, juice cleanses or fasting diets. The aim is not to starve the body but to replace vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids that may be lacking, under a doctor’s supervision, and to support the body’s own systems. The program may be used on its own or planned together with nutrition and lifestyle changes.
How Does the Detox Program Work?
The program follows personalized steps:
- Examination and assessment: Complaints such as tiredness, difficulty losing weight or sleep problems are discussed. If needed, blood tests check vitamin and mineral levels and liver and kidney function.
- Personalized protocol: The drip content is chosen based on your results. Glutathione, vitamin C, alpha-lipoic acid and B-complex vitamins are among the commonly used ingredients.
- IV infusion: An IV line is placed while you sit in a comfortable chair, and the drip is given slowly. A session takes around 30–45 minutes depending on the content, and you can rest or read meanwhile.
- Holistic support: Your doctor also plans your eating pattern, fluid intake, gut health and supplement use.
Ingredients given through a vein reach the circulation without passing through the digestive system, so they may offer more direct support than oral supplements. You can read more about drips with glutathione and vitamin C on our Glutathione C IV page.
If your tests point to a food intolerance or gut health issue, your nutrition plan is adjusted accordingly. You can return to your day right after a session; no special recovery is needed.
Who Is a Detox Program For?
After a medical assessment, a detox program may be considered for people who notice:
- Tiredness: Waking up tired and low on energy despite enough sleep.
- Difficulty losing weight: Struggling to lose weight despite diet and exercise.
- Demanding lifestyle: Heavy exposure to stress, air pollution, smoking or alcohol.
- Skin concerns: Dull, dry or pale-looking skin.
- Immune support: Getting ill often and wanting to support resistance.
These complaints may also be caused by thyroid disease, anemia or vitamin deficiencies, which is why an examination and the necessary tests come first. If your results are normal and there is no clear need, your doctor may not recommend the program and may focus on lifestyle changes instead. For immune-focused options, see immune system boosting.
Detox Side Effects and Safety
When done under a doctor’s supervision with the necessary tests, the detox program is usually well tolerated. Some effects may still occur:
- At the IV site: Mild bruising, tenderness or swelling.
- In the first sessions: Mild headache, tiredness or a temporary change in taste.
- Rarely: An allergic reaction to an ingredient, or inflammation of the vein.
These effects usually pass quickly. Having a light meal before your session and drinking enough water during the day may help reduce tiredness. Always tell your doctor about known allergies and medicines.
IV drips given in unlicensed settings without a doctor may raise the risk of wrong dosing, allergic reactions and infection. That is why the program should only be done at a licensed health facility under a doctor’s supervision. If you feel dizziness, palpitations or itching during a session, tell the team at once; the drip rate can be adjusted or the infusion stopped.
How Long Do the Effects of a Detox Last?
The effects of a detox program are not lasting on their own. Your body keeps meeting the demands of daily life, so maintaining the sense of well-being largely depends on your lifestyle.
How long any boost in energy, skin vitality or general well-being lasts varies from person to person. Some people notice a change quickly, while others may not feel a clear difference. Balanced eating, enough sleep, stress management and an active life may help the effect last longer. To work on your eating habits, our diet program may also be considered.
If stress and irregular eating continue, the program may be repeated at intervals your doctor recommends, for example at the change of seasons. Whether it is truly needed is reassessed before each repeat.
