What Is a Liquid Facelift?
A liquid facelift is a non-surgical facelift that restores volume lost with age by placing filler at specific points of the face. Where needed, it is combined with botox for expression lines.
Facial aging is about more than wrinkles. Over time, bone support decreases, the fat pads in the cheeks slide down and the skin loses collagen. The cheekbones flatten, the temples hollow, the nose-to-mouth lines deepen and the jawline loses definition. Rather than filling lines one by one, a liquid facelift aims to correct these changes by strengthening the face’s support points.
Filler placed at the right points supports tissue upward and outward, creating a lifting effect. The face looks rested and younger while keeping its own character.
It usually suits people with mild to moderate sagging who are starting to look tired or hollow and do not want surgery. The effect tends to be more visible where the cheekbones have lost definition, the temples have hollowed or the jawline has softened.
A liquid facelift is one of the core treatments of the Facial Architecture (Yüz Mimarisi®) approach of Dr. Sevgi Ekiyor at her clinic in Nişantaşı, Istanbul. The face is assessed as a whole, and how much product goes into each area, and which product, is decided by the face’s proportions.
How Is a Liquid Facelift Done?
The appointment begins with a detailed facial analysis. The doctor examines the face from the front and side to identify areas of volume loss, the direction of sagging and differences between the two sides.
- Treatment points are marked. For lift, support points such as the cheekbones, temples and jaw angle are treated first.
- The skin is disinfected and numbing cream is applied if needed.
- Filler is placed deep in the tissue, mostly on the bone, using a cannula or very fine needles.
- After the support points, finer adjustments are made where needed to the nose-to-mouth lines, marionette lines and chin.
- If needed, botox for forehead and eye-area lines is done in the same session or a separate one.
The treatment takes about 45–60 minutes, depending on the number of areas. Most of the result is visible right away; once mild swelling settles, the final result is clear in about two weeks, when a follow-up appointment allows small refinements.
Which Fillers Are Used in a Liquid Facelift?
No single product is used. Each area gets a filler suited to its needs, so what matters is which product goes where, rather than a particular brand.
- Hyaluronic acid fillers: the most commonly used. They are made from a substance found naturally in the body and can be dissolved with a special enzyme if needed. Denser types are used at support points such as the cheekbones and chin; softer types suit delicate areas such as the nose-to-mouth lines and around the eyes.
- Collagen-stimulating (biostimulator) fillers: containing calcium hydroxylapatite, these add volume and also stimulate the skin’s own collagen. Hybrid products such as HarmonyCA filler may be used for this purpose.
All products must be licensed and approved by the Turkish Ministry of Health; this is a basic condition for safety. For area-specific details, see our facial filler and temple filler pages.
Liquid Facelift Side Effects and Risks
Done with licensed products by an experienced doctor, a liquid facelift is considered a safe treatment. As with any injection, however, some side effects and risks exist:
- Swelling and bruising: the most common; usually resolves within a few days to a week.
- Tenderness: treated areas may feel mildly sore for a few days.
- Asymmetry or unevenness: small differences noticed after swelling settles can be corrected at the follow-up.
- Nodules: rarely, filler may not blend fully with the tissue; with hyaluronic acid, this can be treated with an enzyme.
- Vascular occlusion: rare but serious. Knowledge of anatomy, cannula use in suitable areas and a doctor ready to act quickly greatly reduce this risk.
The fake, overfilled look people worry about usually comes from using too much product. Measured planning that respects facial proportions helps avoid it.
How Long Does a Liquid Facelift Last?
How long it lasts depends on the product, the area and your metabolism. With hyaluronic acid fillers, the effect usually lasts 12–15 months. With collagen-stimulating fillers, it may last longer because the skin’s own collagen production is involved.
Smoking, strong sun exposure, rapid weight changes and very intense exercise may shorten the effect. Small top-up sessions before the filler fully dissolves can help maintain the result with less product.
If sagging is more pronounced than volume loss, a French thread lift can lift the tissue; if the lower face is widened by muscle, masseter botox may be added to the plan.
